Major

Major (named by board member Wendy after the horse in Cinderella) was saved from the KP in Peabody Kansas as a "Direct Ship" on November 14, 2022.  He is estimated to be in his early 20's.  He was obviously lame in the front left and quite a bit underweight.  He was also shown to be well broke to ride.  During his video at the KP he was shown to neck rein well and he also was calm while they stood on him and climbed under him.  He was thought to have been an old ranch horse that became lame and was no longer useful.

He had shoes and pads on his front hooves that were overdue to be pulled and had significant thrush underneath.  The shoes on the back legs were estimated to have been on there several months overdue.  The day he arrived the farrier met us and pulled his shoes.  His hooves were quite tender.  The following day he was taken to the vet and had XR's that showed low ring bone.  The good news about low ring bone is that when the joint fuses sometimes the horse is considered sound again.

He was sent back to The Ranch to gain weight over the winter (and boy did he).  He has had his dental float, farrier trims, vaccinations and other medical care. He will be going back to the vet soon for his repeat XR and consultation.  He has great ground manners and is respectful on the ground but at this time in his life it is unsure whether or not he will ever be considered sound again so at this time he is adoptable only as a pasture pet.

He has filled out quite a bit over the winter.  He has gained several hundred pounds.  His ring bone has not yet fused and so he gets uncomfortable on uneven ground.  He loves kids and is a good well mannered boy.
