The Ream Rescue and Rehabilitation Ranch (aka "The Ranch") is a family owned and operated animal rescue. The Ranch was established in 2022 and we were excited to be celebrating our first anniversary this March! The Ranch is owned and operated by April and Rusty Ream under the direction and guidance from our fantastic Board of Directors. The Ranch is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. We comply with all local, state, and federal guidelines.

Our Mission: is to accept the animals that we can, while staying within our capability and capacity to provide the animals with the care they need and deserve. Our primary focus is to help animals in need with the goal of rehabilitation and eventual re-homing. The terms "need" and "rehabilitation" mean different things to the various animals at the rescue. For example, one might need physical care for illness and starvation (Maggie) while another is physically well but needs mental rehabilitation (Willow). Some of our intakes have been animals that come from loving families who can no longer care for them. The family surrenders the animal to the Ranch so that we may take care of their needs and then locate the appropriate home for that animal. The other animals come from auctions and horse "pens". We usually don't know anything about these animals other than a statement or two when we take them in. Several of our rescues we have taken not knowing anything more about them than their auction number and gender. We take in animals locally but have also accepted animals from Kansas, Oklahoma, and as far away as Texas. Animals that cannot be rehabilitated will remain with the rescue as sanctuary animals.

Adoption Process: Prior to becoming adoptable there are several things that the animal will go through. First, is quarantine to make sure that there is no evidence of illness. Second, all animals will be properly vetted from a licensed veterinarian. The animal will also be vaccinated, wormed, have a coggins test, have their hooves evaluated by a farrier, and have a dental evaluation. Castration will be done unless the vet thinks that there is a contraindication at the health and wellness of the animal. Some animals will go through training if applicable. We have an outside (no affiliation with the rescue) person do a riding evaluation on the horses that are/were broke to ride. We do our best to disclose all information that we know about the individual animal to its potential adopter. We pregnancy check our females on arrival but sometimes (because it can take up to 90 days to have a positive test) we will check them again prior to adoption. We do have a strick no breeding clause in our adoption contract. If you are interested in seeing a copy of the adoption contract please contact the rescue and one will be emailed to you.

The Ranch's primary focus is for the rescue and re-homing of equine (aka horses, mules and donkeys), but we also work with re-homing birds and dogs. *Important note: We are working on getting licensed for dogs but as of yet we are not yet accredited for the dogs. Therefore, we can only take in dogs on a case by case situation. We are not promoting our rescue as a licensed rescue for dogs. We are happy to give names of local dog rescues that are currently licensed. We are willing to accept other animals (cats, rabbits, etc.) based on a case by case basis.
